i'm not even lying when i say this is the best SHINee ballad ever from debut till now imo. and i didn't choose this song because i didn't wanna repeat songs, i chose this song sincerely. it's a beautiful and totally amazing song. the vocals are just so perfect with the harmonization, the lyrics are totally poetic (kind of like the story from the hunchback of notredam, which is why its also similarly titled 'Quasimodo') and the tune is totally sorrowful, telling of a one-sided, non-reciprocal love. it's something everyone, including myself can totally relate to. it's a totally extremely very underrated song, and the live performances are just as beautiful (though they are rare) ;_; i absolutely love how every member gets to flaunt their powerful vocals here because most of them gets equal lines (though Jonghyun always gets the most obvious ones, or it could just be me LOL).
another reason why i love this song so much is because of the lyrics. yes i said they were poetic, but they're absolutely beautiful. i remember on days where i got so upset, this song told my story. i would listen to this on my iPod crying and feeling better afterwards. on days where i didn't know how to express myself, this song helped me. on days where i wanted to die, i cried myself to sleep with this song on repeat and i felt better (albeit waking up with swollen eyes lmfao). and in case anyone cared, the korean words for this song don't translate to Quasimodo, they translate to the romanization, 'hwasal', which means arrow in english, as in the lyric of Key's line (in the second verse) "This arrow that's pierced through my heart feels like a part of my body now". i basically listened to this song so often on repeat i memorised the lyrics within 2 weeks (which was pretty slow lol). but i listened to it 838 times on my iTunes (and counting LOL i still listen to it alot) and read the english translations till i roughly memorised those too. ;____; my love for this song knows no bounds.
my favourite live performance of Quasimodo is embedded below, but it's without Minho, when they were promoting as four while he was recovering. taemin covers his lines here, and if he were here, it would've been complete ;~; it's one of the most beautiful, and it's the only one this clear. their perfect vocal ability (even though they had the earpiece LOL) while singing live makes it even more beautiful. it sounds a lot like the studio recorded version to me imo, which tells you SHINee isn't just looks and dudes with fake mr-ed voices, they're real, and their talent is amazing. it takes talent to sing in pitch while harmonizing jsyk so stop hatin', haters.
